The movie is set in the remote village of Gehlaur in Bihar during the 1960s. After his wife, (played by Radhika Apte), tragically dies due to a lack of timely medical care caused by a massive mountain blocking the way to the nearest hospital, Manjhi (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) resolves to break the mountain so no one else suffers his fate.
