However, the shift from studio-controlled publicity stills to algorithm-driven social media feeds has fundamentally altered the power dynamics of entertainment content. This paper argues that the contemporary actress operates as a "dual-text": she is both the performer in films/TV (entertainment content) and the creator/product of her own visual narrative on platforms like Instagram and TikTok. By analyzing three distinct eras—the studio pin-up (1940s-1950s), the tabloid paparazzi shot (1990s-2000s), and the curated "candid" post (2020s)—this paper reveals a paradox. While actresses appear to have seized control of their representation, they have instead entered a more insidious form of labor: the performance of authenticity, where every "fun," "unfiltered" picture is a calculated contribution to a personal brand designed to survive the relentless churn of popular media.
