According to recovered design documents, the game was simply Dinosaur Island , but after a legal cease-and-desist from a board game of the same name, the developers appended the year to distinguish it. Ironically, this decision gave the game a prophetic, diary-like quality—as if the island itself existed only for that one chaotic year.
