The transition of foundational English textbooks from print to PDF format has transformed self-directed learning. This paper evaluates YBM’s English Basics PDF series—a popular digital resource for adult Korean learners of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Through a mixed-methods analysis (interface usability, pedagogical sequencing, and learner outcome data from n=127 users), we investigate whether the PDF format preserves the instructional integrity of YBM’s print materials. Findings indicate that while the YBM English Basics PDF retains structural clarity (e.g., predictable unit design, audio QR integration), it introduces significant navigation fatigue and limited interactive feedback. However, its low-cost accessibility and searchability have increased uptake among rural and working learners.
