The film follows Alita (played by Rosa Salazar via performance capture), a cyborg who is found in a scrapyard by Dr. Dyson Ido. As she regains her memories, she discovers she is a legendary warrior from a forgotten era, leading her into the high-stakes world of Motorball and a revolution against the floating city of Zalem.

Alita becomes determined to uncover her past and the truth about her relation to the world she finds herself in. Along the way, she becomes entangled in a conflict between various factions vying for power and survival on Earth and in the orbit around it.
